The OILMAN Project

Oilman Project is a photo perspective on the global gas and oil industry by renowned British photographer Simon Townsley. Harrison Lovegrove & Co. Ltd. (HLC) was the principal sponsor to the Oilman Project which began in January 2003 and toured internationally in 2004 and 2005. It included 29 color photographs, printed in large scale, of the gas and oil industry at work in California, Canada, Gabon, Louisiana, Mongolia, the North Sea, Papua New Guinea, Siberia, Sudan, Texas, Trinidad-Tobago, Tunisia and Vietnam. With the support of HLC and other international oil and gas companies, Townsley was given unlimited access to photograph oil and gas operations around the world.

In March 2005, a photo exhibition was held at the Royal Academy in London. To continue the exhibition, in April 2005 the photographs were placed on display in Houston, Texas at the JPMorgan Chase Building for an entire month. Lastly, in May of 2005 the large exhibition moved to Calgary, Alberta. After several weeks on display HLC joined with Petro-Canada to sponsor a charity auction to benefit Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre (AARC). The auction and after-sales raised $178,000 for the local charity, a last resort facility for young people with drug and alcohol addictions. Additionally, HLC donated $5,000 to FotoFest, a non-profit photography organization in Houston for their assistance with this project. Another donation was made to Ronald McDonald House on behalf of HLC in the amount of $2,500 in regard to this project.
